ENHANCED SEQUESTRATION GEOTHERMAL LLC
Celebrates a New Patent on World Geothermal Energy Day
US Patent 11,732,929 is the natural evolution of enhanced geothermal systems. It is novel because it combines in a single well the permanent sequestration of waste heat transfer products such as scCo2 or all emissions from a power plant including liquid nuclear waste. These unwanted products can be used to enhanced the recovery of heat from a geothermal well.
ABOUT ENHANCED SEQUESTRATION GEOTHERMAL, LLC
The geothermal well can be drilled anywhere onshore because the target formation for hot dry rocks is basement granite which blankets all continents. This means no pipelines. Basement granite is the primary source of radiogenic heat from earth’s crust and is the premier disposal zone around the world because of granite’s ubiquitous & deep vertical natural fractures which may serve as conduits into the mantle and allow super high temperatures to reach the wellbore without having to drill to the mantle.
The objective of the patent is to ensure the future of the geothermal industry. Geothermal projects have been known for being marginally economic at best. What is needed is low-cost well solution that provides for a second revenue stream to make geothermal wells extremely profitable.
Lowering costs begins with requiring only one well to be drilled. If that well is being drilled for sequestration reasons like described in the patent then the geothermal well cost is free. Next, is to lower completion costs by drilling the horizontal wellbore underbalanced to eliminate the need for hydraulic fracturing.

Today we Celebrate the oldest geothermal plant in the world
At look at Larderello Geothermal Energy plant in Italy, the oldest geothermal plant in the world.
To find the first geothermal power plant in the world you have to go to Tuscany, Italy in the early twentieth century. The creation of the first geothermal power plant was thanks to Prince Piero Ginori Conti of Trevignano. It was through this work that Conti eventually found his way into geothermal energy with the creation of the first geothermal energy generator in 1904. Based at the Lardorello dry stream field, Conti’s generator was able to produce 10 kW of energy and power five light bulbs. From these humble beginnings, the geothermal potential of Lardorello was expanded in 1911. In an area known as the Devil’s Valley the world’s first geothermal power plant was completed in 1913. Larderello 1 had a capacity of 250 kW and was able to produce 2750 kW of electricity, which was used to power the Italian railway system and the nearby villages of Larderello and Volterra.
The plant was gradually added to throughout the years and now Larderello is now formed of 34 plants operated by Italian company Enel Green Power (EGP). The capacity of the site is now 800MW, and has helped Italy become the sixth-largest producer of geothermal energy in the world, as it forms nearly 2% of Italy’s energy mix. Geothermal power was born, but the world would wait until 1958 for the second geothermal plant in Wairakei, New Zealand.
Larderello has produced energy for over a century and has now become a tourist attraction, with Tuscany’s geothermal areas receiving 120,000 visitors annually.

First Balfour celebrates World Geothermal Energy Day
In celebration of World Geothermal Day, we look back at the successful delivery of the 3.6MW Mindanao 3 (M3) Geothermal Power Plant located in Kidawapan City, Cotabato, Phillipines.
The M3 power plant is an addition to the existing Mount Apo geothermal facility that supplies clean, reliable, and stable power in Mindanao. Unlike other geothermal power plants, it employs a two-step process. The plant extracts steam from underground and then separates it from the hot water. The hot water (brine) serves to heat the secondary fluid. Once that fluid is already heated, it drives the turbine of the binary plant to produce energy.
This aligns with our mission of achieving a decarbonized future.

Today, millions of people worldwide derive their essential energy from clean and sustainable sources like geothermal. As Kocaer Energy, we are committed to helping Türkiye, one of the leading countries in geothermal resource wealth, reduce its energy dependency and achieve a future illuminated by the infinite power of geothermal energy.
Geothermal energy began in ancient times with hot springs used to heat bathwater. Geothermal energy is thermal energy extracted from the Earth's crust. It combines energy from the formation of the planet and from radioactive decay. Geothermal energy has been exploited as a source of heat and/or electric power for millennia. Then, the invention of dry/flash steam and binary cycle power plants in the 1960s kickstarted the industrial age of the geothermal industry. Installed capacity has increased steadily since 2000, yet geothermal remains relatively untapped.
Always enjoy getting out into the field and seeing the Fervo Energy assets close up. Roughly this time last year, I was onsite when we brought our commercial pilot online. One year later (and a bit more desert dust in 2024), we are still producing commercial quantities of geothermal energy at the most commercially successful #EnhancedGeothermal project in the world! Scalable, clean, firm power generated using existing technology. Kyle Gabb

Happy Geothermal Energy Day!
I grew up thinking that volcanoes are giants observing us. Now that I am older, I still imagine them as giants but they are always laughing at us because we are trying to understand them. I consider geothermal energy as the heart of their power, like the blood that circulates through them and makes them evolve through time. I think geothermal energy is an amazing multidisciplinary science. I enjoy realizing how much I do not understand about it and the uniqueness of each system. Every geothermal system is different but all can give us energy and allow us to utilize it.
I hope one day geothermal energy can be used worldwide. Happy day you all.
From Bjarni Gautason
Today October 17th is #WorldGeothermalEnergyDay and I am fortunate to have been spending the week in #Romania working with local geothermal experts on identifying potential projects within the #GeothermalBridgesInitiative with the aim of bringing geothermal utilization in Romania forward. Interestingly geothermal resources have been utilized in Romania since the Romans ruled this region, at least. Geothermal energy is currently utilized for bathing (tourism/balneology) and space heating. There are opportunities to increase the share of geothermal in space heating (and eventually cooling as well), tourism and most likely in food production and other cascading types of use, increasing the quality of life for the inhabitants of Romania.

“𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑻𝒘𝒐”
Have you ever visited a country where there’s intense cold? Especially during winter! The first time I visited #Vladivostok, a region in far east Russia, seeing the snow fall for the first time was shocking as it was exciting. The next priority is staying warm - it’s not what you’re thinking though! I realized that most homes and apartments rely on electricity or gas for warmth. Instead of using gas from fossil fuel, or inviting someone to “tha oza room” (Nigerians will understand this ), there's a sustainable alternative: 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲. This is a renewable energy that harnesses the Earth's heat to: - Heat homes. - Boil water. - Power appliances and many other applications.
In geology, the geothermal gradient is literally defined as “the deeper you go the hotter it gets”- the temperature increases as does the depth. That could be the reason why areas at high elevations like the Himalayas or the Jos Plateau are colder while lower-lying areas are warmer. Next time you discuss renewable energy, remember 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 not “weather for two”! because that’s more #sustainable.

Today we celebrate World Geothermal Energy Day.
Geothermal energy is one of the most reliable, sustainable and efficient renewable energy sources. Unlike other renewables, it’s weather-independent, providing uninterrupted green energy and is uniquely capable of meeting peak demand by being switched on and off as needed. It can provide baseload power, heating and cooling solutions.
With low lifecycle costs and proximity to energy sources, geothermal plants reduce logistical expenses often tied to other renewables. Their small footprint and cost-competitiveness make them a critical player in the global race for decarbonisation.
At Getech, we’re making geothermal exploration more cost-effective than ever, using cutting-edge geoscience powered by AI. Finding subsurface resources vital for the world’s energy transition.
