If so, feel free to send a high resolution LOGO and URL to link back. We love to show off great companies and projects in the Geothermal Energy industry.
This is the one day when people around the globe celebrate the virtues and benefits of geothermal, open their shops for tours (both virtual and physical), discuss new technologies, and work to include geothermal in legislation at the local, regional, national and international levels.
The Hashtag is #WorldGeothermalEnergyDay
Normally, selecting a date for an event is an easy task; the first nuclear power reaction (Fermi Chicago Pile - 1942), the first computer (ENIAC - 1946), and the first satellite launch into space (Sputnik - 1957). Selecting a unique date for the inception of geothermal energy is an impossible task. However, we've selected a date in the annals of high impact thermal events; the explosive eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and the impact it had on the innocent people of Pompeii. Most all of us first learned about this event while in elementary school or high school, and it still brings attention and interest to adults around the world. This event still resonates with us all. While the actual date is still in dispute, we've selected the provocative new date of October 17 in 79 AD; nearly two thousand years ago!

The influence of geothermal and the people doing the work spreads far beyond their achievement in unifying the professions of geology and energy. Their newest concepts and innovations begin to reveal the transformative nature of the next generation of geothermal energy. This is the triumph of 21st century engineering and its execution has made possible a vast array of new technologies that will transform the way we live. Their collective brilliance still inspires our search for iterative and leap-frog improvements and builds hope that their leadership will illuminate the path to further discovery in years to come. We seek to highlight on a yearly basis, during World Geothermal Energy Day, these exciting evolutionary developments and the people who create them.
Q & A about World Geothermal Energy Day
World Geothermal Energy Day is a global celebration of the positive benefits of geothermal energy (and the people who make it happen) held on October 17th, each year. October 17 was chosen because of the October 17th thermal eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD.
You can be an "active" or a "passive" participant. An active participant creates events in their location, posts on social media, joins in other events and leads. A passive participant watches all the great activity and has fun!
Global Network Ambassadors for World Geothermal Energy Day organize events in geographic locations throughout the world and act as the point person in your country.
