Geothermal Energy Advancement Association- UK
On October 17, and in celebration of World Geothermal Energy Day, the Geothermal Energy Advancement Association "GEAA" annual general meeting (AGM) is featuring sustainability of geothermal energy. As a stakeholder driven association that advocates increased investment for the development of Geothermal Energy and increased awareness of this sustainable source as the only true near zero-carbon baseload energy for power, heat and hot water, the GEAA is pleased to offer the latest in news and innovations in the industry to its members.
The Association is a not-for-profit organisation offering peer review, leadership and a dialogue in the energy transition debate. GEAA is a voice for all and is open to all those interested in advancing geothermal energy and all those interested in supporting the role in transitioning to a world using less fossil fuels with a clear objective of reducing carbon emissions and helping reverse the alarming effects of Climate Change and support global initiatives like the UN Paris Climate Accord.
Geologic Institute of Romania and National Museum of Geology
Geothermal energy is definitely one of the future, but the key to increasing its use is education and information.
In this context, Romania is going for the education of young people on this type of energy. Information creates the real image of a field and as such the National Geological Museum, part of the Geological Institute of Romania has chosen to enter into a partnership with the Technological High School of Metrology Traian Vuia, profile natural resources and environmental protection in which education on geothermal energy, its applications, how to extract it are basic elements.
The symposium on geothermal energy organized on the occasion of the World Geothermal Energy Day has already become a tradition and students and researchers are happy to present interesting papers.
LAGEO and WING are organizing a webinar for World Geothermal Energy Day in El Salvador
LAGEO is a company dedicated to the production of electrical energy, using the geothermal resources of El Salvador in a rational and sustainable manner. We currently have a total installed capacity of 204.4 MW and a net production equivalent to 21.8% of the electrical energy produced in El Salvador.
Our commitment to the economic development of the country has prompted us to investigate new geothermal fields in the municipalities of Tepetitán in San Vicente and Chinameca in San Miguel, actions that allow us to provide a low-cost energy supply.
LAGEO's business philosophy focuses on a platform of corporate values and principles among which social responsibility is fundamental, which is why in 2006 FundaGeo was established, a foundation that works for the development of the municipalities and communities near our headquarters. of work.

Today is #WorldGeothermalEnergyDay!
On this big day for the industry, we would like to express our gratitude to every person, organization and initiative that are working hard to promote and scale geothermal. It’s not an easy job, but together, we can make it work!
We will continue to give our all for the dream we believe in, and that is a planet in balance with resilient societies that run on renewable geothermal energy. Because today we know that geothermal is clean, affordable form of renewable energy that can be harnessed anywhere on the planet. It can run 24/7, it is resilient, inexhaustible and it plays an important role in supporting carbon emissions reduction. Today, sustainability should be a rule, not an option, and we know that geothermal is up to that task.
Let’s continue working hard and show that this is only the first “Geothermal Decade”, with many more yet to come!
The UK Coal Authority has ingeniously deployed mine water in coalfield communities to help achieve net zero! After the nation’s first large-scale network was hailed a success, 6 months on since it started operating.
It took just 3 years for the groundbreaking energy project in Gateshead mine water heat reclamation project to go from first concept meeting to full operation on 29 March 2023. It is now one of the largest in Europe and has been providing hot water and heat to hundreds of homes and businesses for 6 months now. It uses existing technology to supply secure, stable-priced heat, replacing the gas engines that used to heat the network.
This is a major step forward in the mission to decarbonise heat and a real-world example of how former mining communities could benefit from using the historical industrial coal mining infrastructure to create an eco-friendly future.
The Coal Authority along with key partners, such as the British Geological Survey, have been researching the potential for recovering low-carbon heat from disused coal mining infrastructure for several years. The organisations have built up a wealth of expertise during this time. Coal Authority dedicated specialists used this knowledge to advise and facilitate on the Gateshead project. The organisation is now working with other local authorities and key partners across England, Scotland and Wales to unlock the full potential of our mine heat resource.

Texas Geothermal Energy Alliance Celebrates Successful Legislative Session on World Geothermal Energy Day
When the gavel came down on the 88th Legislative Session in Texas, TxGEA members and staff were thrilled to see a number of geothermal policy advancements successfully pass the gauntlet of "sausage-making" that epitomizes the Texas Legislature. As a neophyte trade association, we had no expectation that our legislative agenda would be so successful. In fact, many policy initiatives take multiple legislative efforts to achieve similar outcomes. TxGEA defied the conventional wisdom of setting modest goals. Instead, we aimed high, worked diligently, and made some bold advancements in our inaugural legislative session.
TxGEA's Executive Vice President, Matt Welch, provided the organizational management to turn an infant trade association into a formidable policy advocate. He tirelessly lined up engagement sessions to ensure the critical players not only had an understanding of the geothermal potential in Texas, but the policies needed to underpin development in our great state.
Many TxGEA members answered our calls to make office visits with key legislators, write letters of support for various proposals, and offer testimony during pivotal committee hearings. Special thanks go out to Malcolm Ross, Derek Adams, James McAllen and many others. Without a united geothermal industry, this level of success simply would not have been possible.
Celebrating Geothermal in Mississauga, ONTARIO, CANADA
Diverso Energy is honored to have partnered with Edenshaw Developments on Alba Condos, a dazzling 32-storey project in Mississauga's transit-rich City Centre! If the company had one word to summarize the project, it would be revolutionary.
Why revolutionary, you may ask? Well, in addition to its vast selection of wellness amenities and breathtaking view of Lake Ontario, Alba Condos will contain a borefield under 8 levels of underground parking! This makes it the deepest under-parking drilling exercise ever.
This dynamic geothermal system at Alba Condos eliminates the need for traditional gas boilers and rooftop cooling towers, resulting in reduced operating costs and a 410-ton reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Beyond the intended function of the system, clients like Edenshaw Developments receive a practical and effective way to future-proof their building against low-carbon policies, carbon tax, and double-digit inflation on maintenance costs. Diverso Energy’s utility model provides cost certainty for the life of the building, which in turn hedges the risk of potential energy and maintenance increases.
Despite the inherent challenges to drilling this deeply, Edenshaw will still reap the same financial, spatial, and CSR benefits as other clients. In fact, the equivalent of 82 cars will be removed off the road, on account of this unprecedented geo-exchange design! A leap ahead of the sustainability curve, to say the least. The Diverso crew continues to work diligently as we speak, finalizing the countersinking process from parking levels 6 to 8.
Eager to learn more about the project? Join Sergio Almeida, Co-Founder and Lead Engineer at Diverso Energy, as he discusses the engineering complexities, and significance of the drilling process at length in this explainer video.
